How Microsoft Became One Of The Most Succesful Companies in History.

We all know what is Microsoft and who Bill Gates is. But do we know the history behind it? Do we know how he became the richest man on earth for 19 years? Do you know how this man started from scrap to become what he is today? No. Then let us have a sneak peek here.

The story begins in Seattle, a city in Washinton. Bill Gates used to study in Lakeside School, a private school in Seattle. Bill had excelled in all subjects but particularly maths and science. He grew up with his two sisters. His father was a Seattle attorney and his mother was a school teacher. He was brought up in a wealthy family.

The charges for using the system were too high so they started pointing out bugs so that they can get free time in exchange. But this was caught and they were banned from the store.

But then the boys proposed a deal with the CCC to find bugs in exchange for free time on the system. This deal continued till 1970 when the CCC went out of business.

The next year, Lakeside saw the talent in the boys. They enrolled Bill and Kent to program an automatic timetable and the school schedule system which provided them free computer time and royalties in return. They worked with dedication but unfortunately, Kent died due to an accident in his mountain climbing expedition. Later he asked Paul for his help and they both completed the project.

After graduating from Lakeside in 1973 he scored flying colours of 1590 out of 1600 in his SAT exams and enrolled at Harvard, one of the prestigious colleges in the USA. Bill dropped out and joined Honeywell a multi-industry company with Paul.

Cut to 1980 when International Machines Corporation (IBM) asked Microsoft to make software for a personal computer (PC). Microsoft purchased an operating system from another company, modified it, and renamed it MS-DOS (Microsoft Disk Operating System). MS-DOS was released with the IBM PC in 1981.

Windows 3.0

By 1993, Windows 3.0 and its subsequent versions were selling at a rate of one million copies per month, and nearly 90 per cent of the world’s PCs ran on a Microsoft operating system. In 1995, Windows 95 was launched which was the first fully integrated MS-DOS. Its net income had grown to more than $14 billion by the fiscal year 2009.
