Being all touristy
I personally love to travel. I love exploring new places. Being as far away from home and from familiar faces gives me at-most joy. Growing up as a single child, pampered by going to foreign destinations and I always made new friends and made the best of my time there. The adrenaline rush of being in an unfamiliar place is unexplainable.
I went to explore San Francisco alone. I went to SfMoMa, Exploratorium, California Life Sciences Museum, Chinatown (Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory and other places), Pier 39, Aquarium of the Bay and a ferry below the Golden Gate Bridge and close to the Alcatraz. In SF, I went in a lot of fancy cars (they came cheap so yay). I also got lost when my phone died and had to ask around and traced back my path to Berkeley and decided to see the other places later.
I learnt a lot about the rich American heritage, about how people from various demographics settled down and how Americans welcomed everyone with open arms, the various scientific innovations taking place.
This was the first time I was a tourist and was on a budget and used free/cheapest available public transport and Uber pool if the bus didn’t show up. It was definitely different from my previous foreign visits. Also knowing that if I screw up, I have no one to call made me travel more safely and responsibly. Also a demerit of travelling alone, there is no one to take pictures, which was a real bummer. Overall, travelling alone gave me peace of mind, I could do what I liked and makes one feel more independent and strong.
