This is The Only Expectation You Should Have For Other People

I recently had a conversation with my childhood friend who got married a few years back about something he has been frustrated with for a long time. He told me that he needed council on how to exert…

S.O.S TO CONGRESS

By Jennifer Rawlings

When my daughter Courtney was a senior in high school her good friend Kenza was hit by car while crossing the street. At 17 Kenza became a quadriplegic.

All five of my kids went to public school in Los Angeles, and since my background is as a stand-up comedian I would often put together comedy nights to raise money for my kids school. My daughter had seen me do this for years. One morning while I was driving Courtney to school she asked me “Mom, could we have a comedy fundraiser for Kenza, or is that against the rules?”

“ No needs to give you permission to do the right thing- if you can help someone do it. ” I said

My daughter has never forgotten that lesson. NO ONE NEEDS TO GIVE YOU permission to do the right thing.

Sadly, Congress has forgotten this simple lesson. I’m not writing about Republicans or Democrats- I’m writing about 535 members of Congress who took an oath to uphold the constitution, who took an oath to serve this beautiful country that we are so blessed to live in.

The oath pf office reads likes this : I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.

There is no mention of defending a political party, a super PAC, or a political platform. The oath of office requires that all 535 members of Congress uphold the constitution against enemies foreign and domestic. The constitution requires that Congress be a “Check” on the executive branch. The constitution gives congress separate powers to keep the executive branch in check.

Many of the members of Congress are ignoring this sacred oath. Instead of keeping this executive branch in check they are ignoring the global chaos caused by an unfit President. They are also ignoring the will of their constituents. Most Americans want the President kept in check. Congress is representing only special interest and a small portion of the population. Every single state in this great country has Democrats, Republicans and Independents and yet many members of Congress are only representing the interests of the few.

This week a senior member of the Trump administration penned an S.O.S letter to the OP-ED in The New York Times. Congress is ignoring the cries for help in the administration and cries from the public. Congress is complicit in this chaos.

I have voted for both parties over the years, and will continue to do so. I will vote for the best candidate. The candidate who is going to uphold the oath of office and represent WE THE PEOPLE. I will vote for the candidate who understands that you don’t need permission to do that right thing. I will vote for the candidate that puts the country ahead of personal political aspirations.

I grew up in Kansas and that’s where my roots were formed. If Congress thinks people in deep red states are going to roll over and ignore Congress’s dereliction of duty. Think again.

WE THE PEOPLE are awake, and we want action.
