How to be a successful writer.

We all share something fundamentally in common.

We all want to write.

The fundamental question we need to ask ourselves is why is it, we want to write. Because it will be this mindset that determines whether we are successful, or what it is we define success to be.

Below you will find a number of examples of different kinds of writers and types of success. What kind of writer are you?

Some may only want to become rich and famous, nevertheless, they are taking pen in hand, and are trying to do it by writing.

There is something amazing about the written word.

Something that touches each and every one of us, young or old.

Words have power and sometimes hold secret meanings.

Something that touches the heart of who and what we are.

When I started my Medium journey, I thought I already knew everything.

I was so smart, so clever, and it would only be a matter of time before I became successful.

Call this arrogance or just self-confidence, but I felt good about what I was doing.

I started this journey thinking that if I wrote well, writing words of truth, my truth, and spoke sincerely from the heart, people would instinctively understand and follow me.

Don’t get me wrong, I haven’t done too badly.

The last time I checked my stats as a newbie, I had 3181 Views, 1976 Reads, 1063 Fans, and 297 followers.

I have not chased after followers as some do, preferring, and consciously deciding that I wanted to build a solid foundation, and build what I considered to be a library of good content.

I have written some things well, and as for some other articles, there is definitely room for improvement, but that is OK as I am on a steep learning curve, and still learning my craft.

Statistically, there is a fairly clear trend or ratio that is being revealed in my numbers.

For every 3 viewers, 2 will read what I write, and 1 will become a fan (3:2:1). Every 3 views gives me .3 of a follow, a nice clear ratio.
