7 Gardening tips for beginners

Do you suddenly wanna have fresh herbs and fruits from your backyard cause you got fascinated by something you saw on the internet?

Or perhaps you had this dream for a long while but never knew where to start from?.

- Well whatever your reason is, as long as you need some tips on how to start your very own garden, you’re at the right place.

So, I know most of you already have an idea of what the term “ Gardening “ means. It’s just growing plants in your kitchen or a backyard or just by your window and getting fresh fruits and veggies every day. Pretty simple isn’t it?

So let’s not drag this and get straight into the tips, a few things you need to consider before you get started.

So before you go up and buy a pot and plants and a bunch of other things you might waste your money on, Just sit down and think about how you want your specific area to look like, what would you like it to be filled with?

So it’s your garden, you can grow whatever you like. Just make sure you grow the same kinds of plants. If you want to grow herbs then start off with all kinds of herbs, If its fruits or vegetables then start with the same kind of them.

Grow them somewhere where you have a bunch of space, so you can continue planting and the plants can grow to there fullest. Also where the plants can easily access their basic requirements such as sunlight and water.

The very first thing you need to do is study your land. You need to know the type of land you have, to see what kinds of plants would grow easily and which plants wouldn’t survive. It’s pretty obvious that plants just don’t grow EVERYWHERE but most people don’t really emphasize this part enough - probably cause they’re too excited to start planting.

Plants have different pH and so do soils. A great way to see if your soil and plants are compatible is to test your soil’s pH. You can do this home by using a Gardener’s starter kit or an easy alternative is to take a portion of your soil to the nearest nursery and they’ll tell you how acidic or alkaline your soil it and this affects how your plant absorbs nutrients.

Start your gardening journey with some simple plants that don’t take much longer to grow. This will save you time, in case something goes wrong, you won’t regret the quantity time you spent and also to see if plants are easily nourished on your land. If everything turns out great you can continue planting in abundance and spend quality time on it.

Sunflowers are a great option if you’re just starting since they grow tall and pretty quick.

A Plan will really help you plan out things since the beginning. Make a plan on how you want your garden to look when you’re finished planting. The smaller plants are always planted towards the front and the taller ones are grown at the back. You should also consider spacing your plants so they don’t stunt each other growth.

This is where knowing about sun exposure comes in handy — be mindful that taller plants would block smaller ones or the varieties that prefer a lot of sun.

A Journal can come in handy almost everywhere. You can write about the big picture- the dream you hold for your garden. You can use it to keep track of garden activities and also about any plants you came across somewhere. You can write down all your hard work to inspire you at some point when you need it.

You can also add in the names of plants you'd like to grow in the future.

Watering varies from plant to plant. Just water the plants consistently. Consistent means you’re doing it daily and ample means the right amount of water. Make sure the water penetrates the soil and not just barely sprinkled on it.

Smaller plants need to be watered frequently cause their roots aren’t developed yet but that doesn’t apply to older or grown plants.

Also, it’s better to water your plants is in the early morning rather than in the evening.

You wouldn’t wanna grow something that isn’t compatible with your environment. It’s going to result in seeing all your hard work go to waste when your plant won’t survive the conditions. We don’t want that, so it’s better to buy the plant that will grow in the atmosphere you live in.

Corn, cucumbers, melons, peppers, and tomatoes grow in warm weather. Likewise, Carrots, Turnips, Radishes, and cabbages are vegetables that grow in cold- weather. Growing the plant in the wrong weather will just result in the plant not being able to cope up with the environment.

Remember to be patient, Things take time. You might ruin things if you rush them. Just take proper care of your plants and things won’t go wrong.

You will get better at it over time and as you gain experience you will gain the knowledge for what is best for your plants.
