Working in Banking While the Industry Burns

Ok, we’re not there…yet

Banks. Back in the headlines.

It’s not an industry that gets much sympathy. And why should it?

It was the heartbeat of the global financial crisis. Far too much risk-taking by people that didn’t care about the consequences. There are plenty of unsavory types earning too much money.

So imagine what it’s like working in an industry that’s crashing around your ears. That’s me.

I don’t work anywhere close to “high finance” — you know, the sexy stuff with big bucks, sharp suits, and obnoxious personalities. I’m more low-level, button-pushing, spreadsheet-viewing.

No, I’m not some fast-paced Hollywood-style Wall Street banker. The type that drinks cristal with oysters for lunch.

Very few in the industry are. Outsiders tend to have the wrong impression about the vast majority of people working in banks. They are just ordinary folk that took a career path.

Watch this space. There will be many more stories about banks. Ultimately, many more negative stories. I can hear the drumbeat getting louder.

I’m a finance guy with a career and life coaching background. And a past. My About Me page will show you that.
