Pirate Summit 2018

Well it’s that time of the year again kids! The annual gathering of Pirates.

ARRRRRRR!

For oh so many reasons!

Held in an artistic junkyard(?) or is a junky party space(?) or rather … who the fuck knows? What it IS is a gathering of some of the coolest, most progressive and informed group of tech heads that you can shake a stick at.

Whether it’s the over 1000 participants, 250+ investors, 70+ nationalities represented, 60+ startup pitches, or 50+ expert sessions, if you’re bored at the Pirate Summit … you’re clearly doing something wrong.

One thing that DOES stand out to me about the Pirate Summit is that I’ve been given the directive of “details”. I always find this interesting, as each even has it’s own flavour. Some events I cover, they want ONLY the speakers. One right after the other, non-stop. All day. I can certainly do this, but it does lead to a rather creatively flat day.

On the other hand, give me a beautiful art space with lots and lots of colourful characters to interact with and document … whoa mama! Can. Fucking. DO!

I’ve done a writeup and a collection of my favourite images from the 2017 edition over here, so I’ll keep it to a minimum about the event itself, and only say that I’m REALLY looking forward to making the 2019 edition shine like a. muthafunkin’. diamond!
