MY VOTING FELONY

The voters came to the ballot box, in this case a green plant. As I took each ballot, I slipped it into the dirt surrounding the tall, green leafy stalks.

All was going well until frustration took over and I cut off the tops of
the stalks where the votes were stored and tabulated. Wow, that felt
good! Snip, cut, hack, cut some more. Now, how to get rid of the
leafy stalks?

Out into the nearby woods I went with stealthy steps. I needed to
take the votes and the cutting tool with me.

Oh, wait, someone would find the evidence. It was a federal felony to destroy ballots, wasn’t it?

The stalks would tell the story and evidence could be gleaned from the tool. What should | do???

Nightmares ensued as I realized that I could go to prison for a long,
long time.

How would I explain to my son? He would be devastated — his mother was in PRISON, all from doing such a stupid thing???

I thought about it, had more nightmares, paced, fretted and stewed.

What could I do? Around and around I went.

I couldn’t tape the stalks back on. The paper ballots under that plant had dissolved. The plant pieces and tool would befound.

Ah ha! I could go into the woods and ‘find’ the evidence, becoming a
hero by turning it all into the authorities.

Oh, I wish I’d never done it!
